Want a real Dead Space Plasma Cutter? (Okay, only semi-real, but you can set things on fire and pop balloons with it, so that’s pretty spiffy!)

Win Gears of War 3 Beta Codes at Crush! Frag! Destroy!

Are you sick of seeing your Xbox Live friends playing the Gears of War 3 beta while you sit, beta-less? Tired of watching people whine to Cliff Bleszinski on Twitter that shotgun rolling isn’t the “instant win” button anymore and you’re itching to play a game where Lancers are viable weapons again? Need something to do while PSN is still down?

Well don’t worry. CFD! is here to help.

We only have a couple of Gears 3 beta codes to give away, but we want them to go to our readers (rather than hoarding them ourselves) because we love you all that much. We also are going to make this contest shorter than most of our other ones, since there are a bit less than three weeks left in the beta and we want to make sure you get in as much game time as possible.

Sony Speaks Up After Week-Long PSN Outage: Accounts Compromised

After a week of PlayStation Network being down, PS3 fans wandering around in a multiplayer-less daze, and a very marked lack of explanation on the entire matter from Sony itself, it seems the other shoe has finally dropped.

And unfortunately, it failed to land in the place where non-bad shoes do.

Breaking their week-long silence, Senior Director of Corporate Communications, Patrick Seybold, took to the Official PlayStation Blog and finally explained what had been going on during the last week.

We have discovered that between April 17 and April 19, 2011, certain PlayStation Network and Qriocity service user account information was compromised in connection with an illegal and unauthorized intrusion into our network. In response to this intrusion, we have:

  1. Temporarily turned off PlayStation Network and Qriocity services;
  2. Engaged an outside, recognized security firm to conduct a full and complete investigation into what happened; and
  3. Quickly taken steps to enhance security and strengthen our network infrastructure by re-building our system to provide you with greater protection of your personal information.

INDIE GAME DEVELOPER MEME, PT 2

dragonmaw:

Good, good stuff. So true.

INDIE GAME DEVELOPER MEME

dragonmaw:

oh hello two-tone background meme. (not made by me, btw, these are just the funny ones. it’s from tigsource)

I know we’re a bit behind the curve on mentioning these, but with all the indie games we review, a lot of this strikes WAY too close to home.

Nintendo To (Possibly) Announce New HD Console

There’s a good chance you’ve already heard the rumors, but in the off chance that you haven’t, allow me to fill you in: today Game Informer hit on something big. According to numerous anonymous sources, it looks like Nintendo is primed and ready to announce a new HD console at this year’s E3. Maybe sooner. The system itself is rumored to be slated for a late 2012 release.

Details are still sketchy, as nothing has been confirmed by Nintendo, but according to these mysterious insiders “[It’s] not a gimmick like the Wii.” IGN claims that sources have also mentioned that the console will be “significantly more powerful than the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360,” and support 1080p for anyone who gives a crap. They’ve also said that this mysterious uber-system will be backwards-compatible with regular Wii games.

Testing. Testing. Is this thing on?

Hey, lookit us! We’re on Tumblr now! Does that make us hipster douchebags yet?

Ahh, but I kid, I kid…

Welcome to the beginning of a noble new experiment.

For those of you who’ve never heard of us, Crush! Frag! Destroy! is a website that has been running since February 2009. We write about video games, produce a podcast on a ridiculously erratic schedule and generally celebrate the hobby that we all love so very much.

CFD! is always looking for new ways to reach out to our readers (what website worth their salt isn’t, really?) and after some discussion on the matter, we finally landed here on Tumblr.

“But why are you here?” you ask. “You already have a website — surely you’re not just going to repost everything you do there on Tumblr too, right?”

You are very much correct, Anonymous Voice. While from time to time we may cross-post particular bits of news or features that we really think are something every gamer out there should see, we’re saving our Tumblr primarily for posting those little morsels of gaming culture that don’t warrant a full write-up on CFD! proper.

If there’s an interesting/funny/outright disturbing image, video or other factoid related to the gaming community, we’ll probably be posting it here. If you have any, we hope you’ll share them with us.

And don’t forget to stop back by the main site. There’s a ton of content waiting for you (2+ years worth, to be specific) and more going up every day.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to continue figuring out how the hell this thing works. Talk to you all soon.
